You’d like to know how to pick the right social media platforms to promote your business and how each one of them works?
Hi there! This blog post is meant to help you understand more about social media platforms 😊
I know how it is. Either you’re an entrepreneur and you want to promote your business, or you’re a professional who wants to grow his personal brand, you probably feel like you should use social media to reach your audience 🤓
That’s a great idea, but before you start creating accounts on all the platforms available, you should first understand how each one of them works 😊
So below you will be able to see exactly:
✅ what each social media platform can help you achieve (awareness, authority, leads etc.);
✅ what’s the main audience that is using each one of these social media platforms and how to pick the right ones;
✅ what content performs best;
✅ where you should focus all your efforts 👍
Facebook is a platform with 2.603 million active users (!) 😮
You know the old saying, “If you’re not on Facebook, you don’t exist” 😅 No matter your target audience, you can definitely find it here 🎯
Sooo… It might be a non-negotiable platform for you. Unless you’re targeting ONLY Gen-Z’s, who pretty much think this platform is for old people and prefer to use TikTok 😂
Instagram has 1.082 million active users 💃 That’s a pretty massive community, don’t you think? So it might be worth promoting your brand here as well 😊
If you belong to a visual industry (fashion, make-up, interior design, art, food etc.), you should DEFINITELY be here! It’s a platform where inspirational & beautiful content rullz 😍
Buuut… Even if you sell bricks, hammers or bug repeller sprays, you could still make the most out of it, with a bit of creativity and a well-defined strategy 😎
So Instagram is a great place to connect and engage with your audience, especially through visual content (photo / video) ✅
YouTube is a platform that currently has over 2.000 million active users 🎬
Sure, some of them might use it just to listen to their favorite music. But many of them also go on YouTube to watch entertaining videos, TV shows, comedy sketches, educational materials and much more 📺
There is a huge community of content creators that do YouTube for a living, by sharing reviews, hauls, recipes, vlogs, unboxings, gaming streams, make-up tutorials, parodies… and the list could go on. Sky is the limit! 😉
As a brand, you can either create and post your own content, or collaborate with these content creators to get visibility on their channels.
My recommendation? Do both, if you have the budget and the resources needed ✅
YouTube is a platform with a massive audience, massive potential and can get you massive results. But you need to make sure you have enough time and resources available before getting started 🤓
Ideally, you shouldn’t create a channel, post 2 old videos and call it a day, ’cause that’s the lazy way of doing things 😁
Pinterest is a platform that currently has 367 million active users, 71% of them being women.
One of the best things about Pinterest is that it can help you get a lot of valuable website traffic. In my experience, if you optimize your pins properly, it’s possible to make it one of your main social traffic sources 😊
Of course, it only works if your pins are also pretty 😁 After all, it’s a visual platform, people use it to get inspired and find ideas. Home decor ideas, tattoo ideas, outfit ideas… And so on. So you gotta’ post quality content in order to grab their attention 😍
The best part? The platform not only allows, but encourages you to do content curation. So you can also share other people’s pins and add them in your boards.
So, if you want to succeed on Pinterest, make sure you post only quality content, and focus on the visuals.
Tik Tok has 800 million active users (!). Fun fact: many of them started using the platform this year, in quarantine 😂
This is one of the most addictive social media platforms, so if you manage to grab people’s attention here, your awareness can skyrocket! And with that being said, I must specify this isn’t one of those places where you can just post random stuff, corporate news or “the usual content” where you promote your products or services.
On Tik Tok you need to be fun, creative, and build native content that people can enjoy. 🥰 My advice is to follow trends, try challenges, use the most popular songs and be as genuine and entertaining as possible.
The main audience using the platform are Gen-Zs, so young people, but it’s starting to become really popular for other audiences as well, so you might need to include this platform in your marketing strategy soon 😇
Last, but not least, LinkedIn is a social media platform that you NEED to be on, if you’re doing B2B or you want to build your professional brand.
It currently has 310 million active users, who usually go on this platform to find jobs or career opportunities, network with people who share their professional interests, showcase their expertise and share industry news.
If you are looking to get more leads for your business, this is one of the best platforms available. Also, this is a place where you can share your company updates, find new employees and exhibit your knowledge.
Just be careful, if you’re a B2C company, avoid promoting your products here. It’s not Facebook 😳 And people won’t react well to an ad promoting your new boots collection or new music track.

Of course, there are many more social media platforms available, but in my opinion, these 6 are the most important and relevant nowadays. Depending on your target audience and business objectives, you might also need to be on Twitter, Snapchat, Tumblr, Reddit etc.
I really hope this will help you take the best decision and pick the right social media platforms to promote your business on! 😊
